Silversea cruise ship turned away from Russian port
More than 80 Silversea cruise ship passengers, some of them British, have been refused entry to Russia amid claims they didn’t have the correct paperwork.
The 85 passengers, many of them elderly, were told they couldn’t disembark from the luxury Silver Discoverer when it docked in the former military port of Provideniya in the far northeast of Russia.
Alexey Frolov, general director of Pacific Network which organised the tour from the Russian side, told The Siberian Times that the majority of guests were from Russian, all had visas and the trip had been sanctioned by the Russian government.
However, the authorities for the autonomous Chukotka region said the passengers, who had paid £7,000-plus for Silversea Expeditions cruise, did not have the correct paperwork.
