Simplified channel ferry fares unveiled
Cross-channel ferry newcomer Transeuropa Ferries has simplified its fare structure for 2005.
Prices start at £35 one-way for a car and five passengers on the company’s Ramsgate-Ostend service.
Transeuropa, the cross channel arm of a Slovenian company, has been operting a freight service since 1998 and started carrying passengers on the Ostend route last summer.
The new fares, which vary depending on the time of year, are based on single tickets for simplicity, according to the company.
The £35 rate applies to crossings to March and November-December. It rises to £53 in April-June and September-October and to £79 in the July and August summer peak. Discounts are available for bookings made four months in advance or for multiple crossings.
UK general manager Nigel Castle said: “Our method enables passengers to compare prices for themselves without having to telephone a call centre or check the webste until they’ve decided to book.”
Transeuopa is targeting independent travellers and families “who want to enjoy a relaxed crossing away from more hectic ports”.
Passengers are carried on up to eight sailings a day on the route, with the crossing taking about four hours. The line does not handle coaches or foot passengers.
