Singapore issues Thailand health warning
While the UK Foreign Office has relaxed advice for Britons travelling to Thailand, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs today issued a travel advisory for Thailand, citing health concerns.
Singaporeans should defer non-essential travel to Bangkok and other affected provinces, said a ministry spokesman in a statement reported by Straits Times.
Those already there or who will be there are urged to “avoid the flood-affected areas, take the necessary precautions, heed the instructions of the local authorities and closely monitor local news.”
The UK Foreign Office is no longer advising against all but essential travel to the capital, Bangkok and other areas in central, northeastern and eastern Thailand.
However, it still recommends all travellers exercise caution when visiting any of the 22 provinces that were severely affected by the flooding.
Although floodwaters in Bangkok have started to recede, certain areas of Bangkok and Thailand still remain flooded.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority has warned that there is a possibility of outbreaks of illnesses like diarrhea.
