Singapore Tourism Board CEO stepping down
Singapore Tourism Board’s chief is leaving.
After nearly six years as STB chief executive, Lionel Yeo will end his tenure on May 31.
STB’s deputy CEO Melissa Ow will take over as acting chief in the interim until a permanent successor is named.
It brings an end to 22 years in the public sector for Yeo who is moving to another role in the private sector.
He also serves on the boards of Mandai Park Holdings and Sentosa Development Corporation.
"It has been my privilege to lead STB and work with tourism stakeholders here and abroad to achieve record tourism results for Singapore and position the sector on a sustainable growth trajectory," said Yeo.
During Yeo’s tenure Singapore has regained its mojo after struggles in 2014 and 2015 and posted record numbers for arrivals and tourism spending in 2017.
Cruise traffic was up 17% to 1.38 million passengers last year.
The city state also secured many major sporting events during Yeo’s time at the helm of the STB, including the BNP Paribas Women’s Tennis Association Finals, Singapore Rugby Sevens and football’s International Champions Cup.
It also recently renewed a partnership to continue hosting the Singapore Grand Prix F1 night race until at least 2021.
