Singapore, Vietnam battle dengue fever
SINGAPORE – Singapore and Vietnam continue to battle outbreaks of dengue fever.
In Singapore, officials say dengue cases have reached epidemic levels again. Last week 381 cases were reported, compared to the epidemic threshold of 378. ??The previous week, the number of cases dipped to 349. ?
National Environment Agency (NEA) officers are urging Singapore residents to spray insecticides into dark corners where mosquitoes can breed. ??In Vietnam, prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung has ordered municipal authorities to take urgent measure to prevent the further spread of dengue fever.
A recent outbreak, he said, has threatened people’s livelihoods and affected the nation’s socio-economic development.
This year dengue fever has been occurring with greater frequency in many localities throughout the country. Reports from affected provinces and cities set the total number of cases nationwide at nearly 22,000, 23 of which resulted in deaths
