Singapore’s Jurong Bird Park moving to Mandai nature precinct

Tuesday, 03 Jun, 2016 0

Singapore’s Mandai eco tourism area which currently houses the city state’s zoological attractions is to be refreshed and upgraded with two new parks.

It is being developed into a 126-hectare nature and wildlife destination with the addition of a new bird park and rainforest park.

The existing Jurong Bird Park is being moved to Mandai and a new rainforest park will be created showcasing flora and fauna of Southeast Asia with treetop canopies.

The Mandai reserve currently houses Singapore Zoo, Night Zoo Safari and River Safari.

"Visitors have asked for more novel, engaging and immersive experiences and we hope the new Mandai nature precinct will provide all that and more," said Mike Barclays, group chief executive of Mandai Safari Park Holdings.

The project is expected to be completed by 2023 and the first phase will cost about S$1 billion.

Public spaces, an education centre and eco-friendly accommodation will also be added to the development close to the Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

"We are also mindful of the need to provide appealing public spaces so everyone can enjoy the beauty of the Mandai nature precinct."
