Singapore’s tourism on track for another record year
Singapore welcomed 4.9 million visitors from January to June 2007, a record number for the first six months of any year and representing a 5.2% increase in numbers compared to the same period last year.
Tourism receipts for the period also achieved record growth totalling over S$6.4 billion and hotel occupancy reached 86%.
Australia was ranked Singapore’s 4th largest visitor market during the period with 345,000 travelling to the Lion City during January to June. Indonesia (911,000 visitors), PR China (529,000 visitors), India (386,000 visitors), and Malaysia (307,000 visitors) rounded out the top 5.
“We are delighted Singapore is maintaining its popularity as a holiday, business and stopover destination for Australians,” said Mr Kevin Leong, Regional Director Oceania, Singapore Tourism Board.
“We continue to remain committed in providing innovative and dynamic products for our industry partners in Australia so they can continue to promote Singapore and its many unique experiences and attractions.
“Our ongoing commitment to the development of new and exciting products such as St James Power Station, VivoCity and the National Museum, coupled with innovative packages from our trade partners, are helping us grow our visitor arrivals year on year.
“With the much anticipated, world first Formula 1 night race in 2008, opening of the Singapore Flyer in April 2008 and Integrated Resort projects from 2009, we feel we are well on track to achieve our target of welcoming 17 million visitors and generating S$30billion in tourism receipts by 2015,” added Mr Leong.
