Sky Travel launches new shopping channel
Sky Travel is launching a new 24-hour shopping channel, Sky Travel Shop, in a major expansion of its holiday sales operation.
The company said the new channel builds on the success of Sky Travel’s existing teleshopping strand – Sky Travel Deals – which currently airs on both Sky Travel and sister channel Sky Travel Extra. Sky Travel Shop will air for the first time on Saturday 1 February 2003 on Sky channel 668.
A number of new presenters, including former BBC children’s presenter Andy Crane, will front the new channel. Hot new talent Kieron Elliott and current presenter Claire Smith will join Andy as the faces of Sky Travel Shop.
A new interactive services menu will launch with the channel introducing several features including a link to Sky Travel’s late holiday offers on Sky Text and resort weather information and snow reports.
Commenting on the launch of the new channel, Delia Bushell, General Manager of Sky Travel, said: “The response to Sky Travel Deals has been excellent and the launch next month of Sky Travel Shop is a natural progression for Sky. No other brand offers the full range of travel services, including entertainment, interactivity, resort and weather information and now round-the-clock shopping.”
