Smartraveller advice for Tuesday 18.10.05
The Advice was issued on Tuesday, 18 October 2005, 13:18:07, AEST
Australians in Turkey are advised to exercise extreme caution, including in commercial and public areas and at public gatherings. There is a high threat from terrorism in Turkey, including in tourist areas. Domestic terrorist groups (some with international affiliations) are active. Further terrorist attacks in Istanbul, Ankara and other cities and tourist areas in Turkey may occur. The threat of attack may be heightened on days of national significance.
Australians are advised to defer non-essential travel to rural areas in the border region between Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran due to concerns about the security situation.
