Smoke alert forces emergency landing
An investigation is under way after a pilot reported smoke in the cockpit and was forced to make an emergency landing.
Fire crews and ambulances were put on standby at Liverpool John Lennon airport on Saturday night as the Emerald Airways flight from the Isle of Man ran into difficulty.
But it landed safely and none of the 55 passengers and crew on board were hurt.
Airport spokesman Robin Tudor said emergency crews were put on standby as a precaution but were then put on full alert as the incident was upgraded to a full emergency.
