Snake on an easyJet plane

EasyJet has launched an investigation after a passenger was able to sneak a snake on to one of its flights from Tel Aviv.

Police were called to meet the easyJet flight at Luton Airport after it was discovered a man had smuggled a snake on board in a takeaway box.

It is understood that the crew became aware of the reptile during the flight and alerted Bedfordshire police.

An easyJet spokeswoman said the snake was harmless and remained in its container at all times.

"Passengers were not in any danger," she said.

"We have raised the issue with the airport to understand why the animal was not detected during security.

"The safety of passengers is always our highest priority."

Passengers took to Twitter to tell of their shock.

One passenger wrote: "Where was Sam L. Jackson when you need him?"
