Snow and ice could stay until Easter
Weather reports are predicting snow and ice could stay until next weekend as travellers head off on their Easter getaways.
The Met Office says there is a 90% probability of severe cold weather and icy conditions between 1500 on Sunday and 0800 on Thursday in parts of England.
More holidaymakers could be looking abroad as the UK sees the chance of a ‘White Easter’ for the first time in five years.
Many airports experienced disruption over the weekend as the extreme weather took its toll.
Leeds Bradford airport only operated from Saturday afternoon due to snow, flights were cancelled at Humberside airport and East Midlands airport closed its runway temporarily.
Services at Leeds Bradford airport are still severely disrupted and flights for Lands End airport have been diverted to Newquay and Exeter airports. Other airports are reporting minor disruptions.
A number of roads were also closed in the UK and thousands of homes in Scotland were left without power.
Kilnoch Hotel in Blackwaterfoot, on the isle of Arran, was set up as an emergency centre for local people.
