Snow at last for Alps
Skiers heading off to the Alps will be delighted to hear that it has begun snowing heavily for the first time in several weeks. Many resorts have seen little snow this season, with many reporting bare patches on lower slopes. However, several centimetres have already fallen and further heavy falls are predicted for the coming weekend. The Daily Telegraph quotes a Ski Club of Great Britain spokesman as saying: “They have not had much snow recently but it is snowing at last. Since the start of January it has been pretty mild throughout the Alps. The high resorts have been offering the best conditions but it looks as if resorts at all levels are getting snow now.” The newspaper quotes the Met Office as saying that high pressure has led to unusually settled weather across the Alps so far this season.
