Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau begins PR campaign in Australia

Five Star PR has been appointed by the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau (SIVB), with this being the first time a PR company has been appointed in Australia by the SIVB to promote these untouched tropical islands.

Michael Tokuru, General Manager, SIVB said, ‘After the tragic tsunami in April which had a large impact on visitors to the Solomons, as well as the lives of many of the locals, we now need to start heightening awareness to our Australian neighbours.”

“Hence we have embarked on a PR campaign with Five Star PR to show the true beauty of the Solomon Islands through the media in Australia.”

Nicole Lenoir-Jourdan, Managing Director, Five Star PR said, “I have just returned from a magical group of unspoilt islands.”

“A place where you can snorkel above giant clam shells as big as sofas, as well as wrecks from World War II (you don’t even have to have to dive), discover shells twice the size of your hand on some of the untouched 900 or so islands, see perfect surf breaks without a board in sight, and visit islands where the local currency is shell money or red feather money.” “Where else in the world would you find this?”

She said, “I saw no tensions, just friendly people who were incredibly helpful and honest not jaded by tourism.” “I felt it totally at ease walking around Honiara and Gizo.”

“There are so many Australians who own the resorts and tourism infrastructure that you can feel quite at home.”

“Even the local airline has Australian and New Zealand pilots.” “The Solomon Islands reminds me of an unspoilt Tahiti – perhaps Tahiti fifty years ago.”

Impressive Lonely Planet reviewer, Rowan McKinnon sites the Solomons as his favourite destination on the Lonely Planet website saying:

“Favourite destination: Possibly Uepi Island in Marovo Lagoon, Western Province, in the Solomon Islands. There’s a small resort there on a perfect coral island in the world’s finest double-barrier enclosed lagoon with hundreds of islets, coral formations and reef life, perhaps the world’s best diving and snorkelling. The lagoon may soon be World Heritage listed.

The Solomon Islands is a must for any diver, surfer, adventurer or leisure traveller who wants pure natural beauty in a climate where the water stays a perfect 29 – 31 degrees all year round. Throw away your wetsuits and jump on a plane to the Solomons, just three hours from Brisbane.

The Solomon Islands are located 1860 kilometres to the North-East of Australia. Shaped by earthquakes and volcanic activity thousands of years ago, the Solomons consist of 922 islands, 350 of these are uninhabited

The six main islands of Choiseul, Santa Isabel, Guadalcanal, Malaita, Makira and New Georgia make up most of the 28,000sq km land mass.

The landscape is mountainous with 80% of the islands covered in dense rainforest. Located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, there are several active volcanoes and numerous uplifted atolls and coral islands.
