South Korea launching ‘DMZ Peace Tour Train’
The Korea Tourism Organization is adding another tourism option to help engender more goodwill between the two Koreas.
After launching three hiking routes within the Demilitarized Zone this year, KTO announced the upcoming roll out of a ‘DMZ Peace Tour Train.’
Setting off from Seoul the full-day tour by train stops on the South Korean side of the Imjin River next to the DMZ, and then to Dorasan Station which used to have a rail connection between the countries.
Passengers will then transfer to a tourist bus, which takes them to the Dorasan Peace Park which is the site of one of the secret tunnels that the North used to infiltrate the South.
The train tour begins a trial this week until the end of August before an official launch on September 1.
"The ‘Peace Tour Train’ now runs across only South Korean terrain to speak about peace, but I hope it will become a centre of inter-Korean exchanges in the future and be able to reach North Korea," the tourism ministry said.
The train will have a programme of entertainment onboard including a app-based game for children to learn more about the DMZ, as well as commemorative gifts.
Tickets are available to book at www.korailtravel.com for KRW59,000 (US$48.42) for adults.
