Southeast Asia’s recovery facing headwinds
Following over two years of lockdowns, Southeast Asia is now seeing tourists flock back to cities and beaches. Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia are leading the recovery.
The region imposed some of the most stringent anti-Covid measures and even now, interregional cruising has yet to restart.
However, Southeast Asia’s travel recovery is facing the same headwinds impacting Europe and North America. Rising costs and inflation have seen jet fuel prices surge 128% from a year ago. So far it does not appear to have impacted demand but a lack of tourism and aviation workers could slow the recovery. Worker shortages are especially acute in Malaysia.
