Southeast Travel Tips

From quiet streets lined with romantic Victorian homes to colorful pockets of Creole cottages, the Southeast is a divine destination for groups in search of America’s most beautiful, eclectic and intriguing neighborhoods.

Throughout the region, you’ll find homes, mansions, downtown squares and temples of worship that are as rich in history as they are in architectural beauty. Nestled among peaceful rolling hills, down bustling city streets and along gently flowing rivers, these unique neighborhoods and towns offer trav- elers an intimate opportunity to explore Southern roots, history and modern-day life.

For those planning a springtime getaway, Alabama’s Historic Mobile Homes Tour is a perfect place to start. During March 14-15, Mobile’s most celebrated architec- tural treasures are open to the public, including a show- case of private homes, churches and house museums. From distinctive Creole cottages to Greek Revival man- sions to Neo-Classical and Victorian residences, the tour provides an up-close look at the area’s most beautiful structures.

The Auburn area offers two unique communities that are great for neighborhood tours. The Loachapoka Historic District offers a lovely route of fourteen private antebellum homes as well as two churches constructed in the 1840s and a century-old schoolhouse. Groups can park the coach at the Historical Museum and browse its collection as well as obtain information on the neighbor- hood architecture.
