Southwest Airlines cuts schedules to fix flight disruptions
Southwest Airlines is trimming its flight schedules for the rest of the year due to staff shortages and other operational issues. From early September it will cut about 162 daily flights in order to improve reliability, it said.
Southwest will operate about 3,300 daily flights during September and 3,420 in October. It will also make cuts in November and December but will protect most holiday flights.
Pilot and flight attendant unions have complained about schedules that piled on more pressure on workers, leading to longer days and frequent last-minute reassignments.
