Southwest Airlines IT problems continue into second day

Sunday, 29 Nov, 2017 0

Southwest Airlines customers experienced a second straight day of disruption due to technical difficulties on its website.

The problems began on Cyber Monday with a temporary outage and ongoing difficulties for customers when trying to manage reservations on the airline’s website and mobile app.

Southwest posted an apology Tuesday.

"We apologize for any difficulties you may be experiencing when attempting to manage your upcoming trips via our website or mobile platforms. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible so you can return to confirming your travel plans,” it said.

A spokesperson initially laid the blame at its new reservations system called Altea.

Southwest was the first major US airline to adopt Amadeus’ Altea system.

Although frustrating for flyers, the IT difficulties did not impact any operational services with all flights departing as scheduled.

Throughout Tuesday more customers took to social media to complain about further tech difficulties preventing them from checking in online for flights.

The airline recently dealt with another separate IT glitch that prevented Southwest’s elite frequent fliers from getting priority boarding.

It also suffered a major days-long outage resulting in hundreds of delays and cancelations back in 2015.
