Southwest flight cancellation woes blamed on ‘outdated’ scheduling software
Southwest Airlines pilots have weighed in on the flight cancellation meltdown.
Pilot union SWAPA blamed the airline’s ‘outdated’ flight crew scheduling software as a major factor.
“The problem is the software just doesn’t keep track of us,” said Captain Mike Santoro, SWAPA VP.
The airline acknowledged ‘flight scheduling’ issues.
Lawmakers claimed there are ‘internal failures at the company.’
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has spoken to Southwest’s CEO about the flight cancellation chaos.
The DOT expects Southwest to offer refunds and expenses for hotel and other costs.
The airline will continue cancelling roughly two-thirds of all flights for the next few days.
