Space travel: starting to blast off?
The first commercial space flight could come as early as 2009 and this year should be a good one in the development of space travel.
“The budding industry is predicting good things for 2007, with a number of developments expected to bring the space travel dream a step closer,” reported Opodo Travel News.
New regulations from the US government are expected to have a positive impact, while spaceport developments and increased testing of the craft are also adding to the positive outlook.
Some industry observers, however, are keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
”We’re still in the developing capabilities phase,” said Bretton Alexander, president of the newly-formed Personal Spaceflight Federation.
The next few months should see new regulations introduced by the US Federal Aviation Authority, with the focus on the safety of those not involved in personal space travel and ensuring that those who are can make an informed decision about their own safety.
An official date has not been set for the first commercial space flight, though some in the industry believe that it could be as soon as 2009.
