Spain set to avoid amber plus list

Wednesday, 30 Jul, 2021 0

Holidaymakers returning from trips to Spain are set to avoid the need for home quarantine as the rate of Beta Covid variant cases has been steadily falling in tourist hotspots.

The variant is now mostly concentrated in one North West region of the country, the Daily Telegraph reports.

While Delta is the dominant variant, the spread of Beta has weakened and cases have fallen by about two thirds.

Beta cases have dropped from 9% to less than 3% of all Covid cases in Spain, while overall cases across the country are gradually falling.

Fully vaccinated people are not required to self-isolate on their return from an amber country.

However they must self-isolate when returning from an amber plus country.

"Spain’s infection and positivity rates are starting to flatline and decline, so it should avoid being placed on the ‘amber plus’ list," Paul Charles, CEO of travel consultancy The PC Agency, told The Telegraph.
