SpiceJet launches e-commerce retail venture
Indian budget carrier SpiceJet is making a big push for more ancillary revenue – by opening its own standalone retail e-store.
The new retail venture is called SpiceStyle and the initial idea was to roll it out as an in-flight only service.
Products can be purchased on online and offline channels throughout India and via a webstore at Amazon.
Product range covers 17 different categories including fashion, jewellery and accessories, electronics, travel goods and more.
The airline hopes the stores will boost ancillary revenue which has grown from 6% of turnover to 17% in the last two years.
"I am delighted to announce the launch of SpiceStyle, an exciting new business venture by SpiceJet, which will help further enhance our ancillary revenue. SpiceStyle promises to provide customers with the same brand experience as the parent airline enabling them to travel in comfort and style. In this new exciting journey, we shall be partnering with leading e-commerce marketplaces to distribute our exclusive range of products, which can also be ordered on-board our flights," said chairman and MD, Ajay Singh.
