SpiceJet placed in ‘enhanced surveillance’ again
India’s aviation regulator has again put airline SpiceJet on its watch list.
The airline is back under ‘enhanced surveillance’ by Directorate General of Civil Aviation following a recent audit.
It found ‘certain deficiencies’ but hasn’t disclosed specifics.
“This would entail an increase in number of spot checks and night surveillance with a view to ensure safety of operations,” the DGCA said.
The airline still has financial woes which were at the heart of technical and maintenance issues the DGCA was concerned about in 2023.
The airline had to recently cancel service for passengers in Dubai after airport officials there refused to allow passengers to board due to unpaid airport fees.
Plane lessors also took the airline to court to recover unpaid bills.
Despite a number of funding rounds, the airline is still in a shaky financial state.
