SpiceJet to launch UAE hub
Indian budget carrier SpiceJet is spreading its wings.
It plans to open a new UAE based airline unit.
The budget carrier has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ras Al Khaimah Airport to start a hub operation there which will take flight with an inaugural New Delhi to Ras al-Khaimah service.
SpiceJet chairman Ajay Singh said the airline has applied for a licence.
The carrier said it could base up to five aircraft at Ras Al Khaimah which could serve as a transit hub for services to Europe.
Spericjet currently has a fleet of 111 Boeing and Bombardier aircraft, although it said it is mulling ordering Airbus jets for the first time due to the Boeing Max grounding.
It already serves Dubai, UAE.
