Spirit Airlines passengers spooked by stowaway bat
It certainly wasn’t a planned early Halloween gimmick from budget carrier Spirit Airways.
A bat took flight inside a Newark-bound Spirit Airlines plane, spooking passengers.
About 30 minutes into the flight it made an appearance, flying over the heads of shocked passengers before being caught.
Passenger Peter Scattini caught the incident on video.
"Where it came from? No idea. Eventually someone trapped it between a book and a cup and then locked it in one of the restrooms for the remainder of the trip," Scattini posted.
While several fliers were not too worried and didn’t bat an eyelid, there were shrieks of ‘Oh my God’ as it flew around the cabin.
"Spirit Airlines can confirm a stowaway bat was located on one of our recent flights from Charlotte to Newark. The bat was eventually corralled into a lavatory and removed once on the ground by animal control officers," the airline said.
The airline believes the bat hitched a ride by hiding in an overhead bin during overnight maintenance in Charlotte.
"The aircraft was disinfected and searched as a precaution. No one was hurt in this incident, including the bat."
