Spitting, stealing and stripping leads to lifetime airline ban for three Scottish passengers

Three Scottish tourists have been banned from airline Jet2.com following ‘some of the worst behaviour seen’ by the airline.

Paul Strain, Kevin Brady and Claire Marshall were flying from Glasgow to Dalaman last week when cabin crew described incidents of spitting, stealing, stripping and swearing.

The airline said before the flight landed Strain and Brady refused to hand over e-cigarettes which they smoked and Brady was spotted stealing wine from the bar.

He also stripped down to his waist and made vulgar sexual gestures, ‘thrusting at a member of the cabin crew and then throughout the cabin’, according to Jet2.

"When firmly asked to sit down, he spat in the face of the senior cabin crew whilst physically blocking the walk-way along with torrents of verbal and threatening abuse," it said.

All three passengers were escorted off the aircraft by the captain and handed over to Turkish police.

The airline said it will be pursuing further action with the Turkish authorities and Police Scotland on home ground.

Phil Ward, managing director of Jet2.com, said:  "These are clear examples, indeed some of the worst I have come across, of why we need a national shared database of passengers that have been banned for disruptive behaviour for the airlines to tackle the growing problem together.

"We will do everything we can to stamp out this industry wide issue through our Onboard Together programme."

Its new programme allows staff to take decisions quickly regarding disruptive passengers including verbal and written warnings.

Measures also include banning disruptive passengers for life, handing them over to the police, issuing a bill for the cost of the diversion and taking legal action, post travel.
