Sri Lanka extends VoA scheme
Sri Lanka has extended its free visa-on-arrival programme until April 30 as it looks to continue its tourist sector revival.
The visa-on-arrival facility is available for citizens of 48 countries.
December saw the ninth straight month of declines in tourist arrivals, although it was just 4.5% down.
Following the Easter bomb attacks, arrivals plunged by 70% in May 2019.
There has been an improvement each month since the attacks although the recovery has been slow.
Tourism minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the country received a total of 1.9 million tourists in 2019, which is 18% down year-on-year.
"We have decided to extend this facility due to requests from the stakeholders," Ranatunga said.
