SriLankan Airlines, American Airlines ink codeshare agreement
Fresh from celebrating its one-year anniversary as a member of global airline alliance oneworld, SriLankan Airlines has inked a codeshare agreement with oneworld founding member American Airlines.
SriLankan’s UL code will be placed on American’s transatlantic services to Frankfurt and Paris from its US hubs at Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare and New York JFK, for through ticketing to Sri Lankan’s Colombo hub.
Reciprocal ticketing will also come in effect at a later date, adding American Airlines’ AA code on Sri Lankan flights originating in Asia.
As members of oneworld, both carriers’ passengers receive joint benefits such as earning and redeeming mileage rewards on flights, lounge access and additional baggage allowances.
"Joining oneworld was one of the most significant achievements in SriLankan Airlines’ history – and we celebrate the first anniversary of our entry into this airline industry premier league with another great landmark, with the launch of code-sharing with the world’s biggest airline," said Lal Perera, Head of Worldwide Sales, SriLankan Airlines.
This is the fifth codeshare agreement so far signed by SriLankan since joining oneworld, following similar arrangement set up with Finnair, Japan Airlines, Qantas, and Russia’s S7 Airlines.
