Stansted launches investigation into power cut
An investigation is underway to find the cause of a power failure at Stansted Airport which delayed all flights after 3pm yesterday (Monday).
The power cut stopped transit trains which take passengers to departure satellites for some international flights.
Power went off at 3pm and was restored two hours later but impacted all flights for the rest of the night.
Passengers had to be bussed out to departing flights, which caused delays across the whole of the evening’s schedule.
Flights on a number of airlines including easyJet, Ryanair, Germanwings and Pegasus were affected.
A spokeswoman said the delays averaged 30 minutes to 1hr 30 minutes but some flights were delayed even longer.
"All flights operated and there were no cancellations, but there were delays to all flights after 3pm," she said.
"The power cut did not affect the main terminal, and all flights are back to normal today."
She confirmed that an investigation was underway to find the cause of the problem.
