Starwood brand introduces voice-control technology
Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ tech forward brand Aloft has unveiled a new in-room innovation.
The chain is introducing voice-activated hotel rooms, allowing guests to control lighting and air conditioning with a simple voice command.
The ‘Project Jetson’ initiative has started at Aloft Boston Seaport and Aloft Santa Clara in California, which feature an iPad in each room controlling all requests via a customised Siri app.
The app also has a virtual concierge feature which can give recommendations on local attractions, activities and events.
“Today’s early adopter, hyper-connected global traveller wants a level of personalisation unlike ever before, and that means being able to control their hotel experience with the sound of their voice,” said Brian McGuinness, global brand leader for Aloft Hotels.
After each stay the iPads are reset and all previous preferences are deleted, the company says.
“The new Aloft Voice Activated Hotel Rooms are going to change the way that our guests interact, literally, with their room during their stay with us. It’s the latest way Aloft is changing the way we all travel,” said Sarah Downing, vice president, global guest initiatives and innovation at Aloft Hotels.
