Strike causes flight cancellations and delays
Flights to and from Italy are being hit today due to strike action by air traffic controllers.
EasyJet, British Airways and Ryanair are all warning of disruption as Italian controllers plan a four-hour strike starting at midday UK time.
BA said it has ‘proactively re-timed some services’ to avoid the strike period, but said ‘regrettably we have been forced to cancel a small number of flights’.
"We will be using larger aircraft where possible to re-accommodate customers whose original flights have been cancelled as a result of the strikes," it said.
Meanwhile easyJet said it was doing everything possible to minimise the impact to its customers.
"If we are forced to cancel any flights, our customers will be informed by SMS and email, with up to date information on the situation available on easyJet.com," it said.
It advised customers flying to and from Italy today to check the status of their flight on its Flight Tracker.
Ryanair said it wasn’t yet certain of the level of disruption expected.
"In the event we are forced to reschedule or cancel flights, we will update this notice accordingly," it said.
