Air passengers are being warned of cancellations today due to a strike by French air traffic controllers.

EasyJet has cancelled 56 flights to and from Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly, Basel, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseilles and Toulouse.

It said more than 60% of its flights operate through French air space there was a risk some flights could be delayed or cancelled at the last minute, depending on the scale of the strike this afternoon and evening.

"Currently we are seeing some delays mainly to destinations in Iberia," it said.

It said all passengers due to travel on cancelled flights will be advised by email and details of cancellation will be listed on its website.

Ryanair has cancelled 70 flights between the UK and France and has warned further cancellations and delays should be expected.

"Strike action by French air traffic controllers is likely to affect flights overflying Spain, Morocco and the Canary Islands therefore we expect flight delays and cancellations," it said.

Airlines had originally feared a Europe-wide strike by air traffic controllers in France, Germany, Spain and Portugal, but this action has been postponed.

Today’s strike is due to end at 8pm GMT.
