Strikes disrupt half-term air, road and rail travel

Passengers flying to and from France have been advised to check their flights are operating as the ongoing blockade of the majority of the country’s oil refineries has caused some airports to run low on supplies.

Workers at the oil terminal in the northern port of Le Havre – which supplies jet fuel to Paris’s two main international airports – voted yesterday to extend their blockade until Wednesday.

EasyJet said fuel supplies at airports in France had improved over the weekend, but added: "There might however still be some impact to our flights across the next couple of days, any passengers on flights to and from France please continue to check flight tracker before travelling to the airport."

Drivers in France are also struggling to find fuel in some areas as 40% of the country’s petrol stations have been affected by petrol shortages.

Meanwhile, a national strike in Belgium has affected Eurostar’s services to Brussels. The train operator said services to and from the UK were operating today, but due to a lack of resources, it isn’t operating its intra-Schengen terminal in Brussels so it can’t carry any Brussels to Lille passengers.

It is, however, able to carry Lille to Brussels passengers.

Eurostar is also warning that there are very limited train services beyond Brussels today.
.
Connecting customers wishing to exchange their tickets should contact their original point of sale, it said.

Rail workers in France are also planning to strike from tomorrow, which will lead to severe cuts in national train services.

In Paris, Metro and suburban train services will be reduced from Thursday, when employees go on strike.

And pilots at Air France have also voted in favour of strike action over pay conditions.
