Strong Demand Prompts Extra Norfolk Air Melbourne Service

Norfolk Island’s home-based airline Norfolk Air has announced that they will start a second direct service from Melbourne on September 1 to target the island’s growing short break and meetings markets.

The new flights will leave Melbourne Airport at 9am each Tuesday and arrive on Norfolk Island at 2pm local time, supplementing existing Friday departures that leave at 1.50pm and arrive on the island at 5.50pm local time.

Return flights will be each Monday (direct) and Friday (via Sydney).

Norfolk Island Tourism General Manager Terry Watson said the new flights followed a strong response to the direct Friday service launched last October.

“Bookings have more than doubled out of Victoria and we’re expecting the new service to boost demand even more because it will appeal to the short break and corporate markets,” he said.

Norfolk Air also flies three times a week from both Sydney and Brisbane and each Monday from Newcastle.

Norfolk Island appeals to Australians because it is one of the most affordable international destinations available and appeals to holidaymakers wanting a mix of action, nature and history.

Home to descendants of the Bounty mutineers, it boasts its own language, a colourful convict history, dramatic coastal scenery, pristine beaches, coral lagoons, 35 restaurants and cafes, one of the world’s most scenic golf courses and exciting adventure activities such as kayaking, mountain biking and scuba diving.
