Former Kuoni UK head Sue Biggs is to return to the industry next summer by joining Thomas Cook.

Biggs, who left the long-haul operator as part of a restructure in the summer, will become managing director of scheduled businesses for Thomas Cook UK & Ireland.

She is to take up the position in summer 2008 initially reporting to CEO Thomas Cook Group Manny Fontenla-Novoa.

She will head the development of Thomas Cook’s scheduled businesses including Thomas Cook Signature, Latitude, Tradewinds, flexibletrips, Bridge and Cresta, as well as Thomas Cook’s cities programme.

Biggs, who brings 28 years travel industry experience to the company, said: “Thomas Cook is already an impressive player in the long haul and scheduled air markets, but with the company’s portfolio of exceptionally strong brands and its extensive distribution reach, there are huge opportunities for further growth.”

Fontenla-Novoa said: “Her vast knowledge and experience of tour operating will make her a valuable member of the senior team.

“We have ambitious growth plans for our long haul and scheduled businesses and, based on her track record of building highly successful travel companies, I have every confidence that under Sue’s leadership these areas of our business will go from strength to strength.”
