Summer air travel to soar
US airlines expect to carry an estimated 200 million passengers this summer, a 4% increase over last year, said the Air Transport Association (ATA).
Said James May, president of the ATA:
“Low fares continue to prompt high travel volumes, and the situation this summer will be no exception.”
The summer travel season officially begins this weekend with the three-day Memorial Day holiday. It runs through the first weekend in September.
Despite the rise in travel, ATA says most airlines will continue to struggle financially due to high fuel prices and low fares caused by intense competition.
