Suntec, AEG Ogden go head to head in Sydney

Saturday, 24 May, 2012 0

Suntec Singapore is part of a consortium bidding to design, build and operate the new integrated convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Led by Australia’s Plenary Group and Brookfield Multiplex, the consortium also includes Life Nation Entertainment and MCI, Suntec’s chief commercial officer, Ong Wee Min, told TTG Asia.

Ong believes Suntec’s "strong network in Asia" gives his consortium the edge over the competing group, led by AEG Ogden.

The Sydney Entertainment Centre will be demolished and the Convention and Exhibition Centre at Darling Harbour closed for up to three years as the precinct undergoes a $1 billion makeover.

It will include the largest exhibition space in Australia at 40,000 sqm and the biggest meeting room space in Australia at 6,000 sqm, linked to both convention and exhibition areas

The 30-year-old Sydney Entertainment Centre is to be demolished while the exhibition and convention facilities will be closed from late 2013 to late 2016.

During the three-year construction period, Sydney Olympic Park, Moore Park, the Australian Technology Park and various Sydney hotels will play an expanded role in hosting events.

A decision on the winning bid will be announced by the end of the year.
