Super fresh delicious local food all over London
Lancaster hotel creates special menu
This September, London will feast on the fabulous local produce being grown, produced and cooked on its doorstep, with the capital city’s second Urban Food Fortnight.
Ethical Eats has teamed up with Capital Growth to bring together London’s enterprising food growers, producers and sustainable chefs to serve up super-fresh and super-local produce, whilst supporting community food growing spaces.
The fortnight is a collaboration between restaurant network Ethical Eats; Capital Growth – the campaign to support thousands of food-growing spaces in London; and Capital Bee, which promotes community beekeeping in London, to highlight the importance of buying and eating local food, urban growing and planting forage for bees.
And to celebrate Urban Food Fortnight (14 – 29 September 2013), Lancaster London has teamed up with Growing Kultur.
Growing Kultur will provide Lancaster London with a selection of locally grown herbs to be used in a special menu that has been created for the festival.
Urban Food Fortnight encourages restaurants, cafés and bars across the city to showcase dishes and drinks made with locally produced fruit, vegetables and herbs, as well as honey cultivated in community beehives.
Lancaster London is passionate about the conservation of the honey bee – it has ten famous beehives on its second floor roof, which produce honey for dishes within the hotel.
To encourage better awareness of urban beekeeping, the hotel will host the third annual London Honey Show on 7 October 2013 from 6pm. Those attending the show will be able to visit stalls and exhibits, enjoy talks from bee experts, and perhaps most importantly sample some of the delicious honey they produce.
The highlight of the show will be the awards ceremony. The most anticipated award of the evening is the coveted "London Beekeeper of the Year 2013", in association with BeeCraft Magazine. Entry to the show is £1, with all proceeds going to "Bees Abroad".
