Survey says Marriott has the buzz in the US
Marriott has the buzz, according to YouGov BrandIndex.
The consumer perception research service, which asks 5,000 people a day what they think of different brands, found Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott both scored in the top three hotels in its Buzz ratings of U.S. consumers.
Sandwiched in between was Holiday Inn, at number two.
The Buzz results for the first six months of 2013, being released today, showed Hilton and Best Western rounding out the top five hotels for U.S. respondents.
Among the airlines, consumer favorites Southwest and JetBlue again took the top spots, followed by Delta, Alaska, and Virgin America.
The brands were rated using YouGov BrandIndex’s Buzz score, which asks respondents, "If you’ve heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, was it positive or negative?"
In the U.K., top travel brands were Premier Inn, TripAdvisor, Virgin Holidays, Hilton and Lonely Planet; Trip Advisor and Thomas Cook were the most improved.
The favorite airlines of British customers were Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, British Airways, Singapore and Etihad.
In the Middle East, the Saudis voted for InterContinental, Hilton, Sheraton, Holiday Inn and Movenpick, though the Ritz Carlton had the most improved Buzz rating. Their top five airlines were the Mideast-based Emirates, Qatar, Gulf, Etihad and Saudia, but British Airways and Swiss Air came in sixth and seventh.
While Al Baik was the favorite Saudi eatery, Western-style ice cream helped them beat the desert heat, with Baskiin Robbins coming in second.
In the UAE, Grand Hyatt, Hilton and Sheraton scored in the top five hotels.
