Sweeping popularity survey names best in travel
Number one US City? San Francisco. Best domestic airline? JetBlue. Top large ship cruise line? Crystal Cruises.
Conde Nast Traveler released its 20th annual Reader’s Choice awards, which might be viewed as just another popularity poll except the survey is so sweeping that it is second in size only to the US Census.
“A record number of travelers, over 28,000, also voted this year,” according to the magazine.
Other winners:
- San Francisco, the #1 US City, has also been #1 for 17 of the past 18 years (Santa Fe won in 1992.
- San Francisco also won in the category of “design museum,” followed by New York and Charleston.
- In the category of “top islands – Caribbean / Atlantic,” the winner was Bermuda.
- Buenos Aires, Argentina won in the “top cities — the Americas” category, followed by Vancouver and Victoria, both in British Columbia.
- In the “top small ship cruise lines category,” Regent Seven Seas came out first, followed by Grand Circle Cruise Line and Seabourn.
- Vancouver Island rated best in the category of “top islands, North America,” followed by Kiaweh, SC, and Nantucket, Mass.
- For “top hotels — Canada,” the Auberge Saint-Antoine, Quebec City, was ranked first, followed by the Fairmont Vancouver Airport and the Magnolia Hotel & Spa, Victoria
- Ritz-Carlton came out first in the rankings for “top hotels — Mainland US,” followed by The Peninsula in Chicago and the Stephanie Inn in Cannon Beach.
- “Top resorts — Caribbean found the winner was Curtain Bluff Hotel, Antigua, followed by Little Dix Bay in Virgin Gorda, and the Nisbet Plantation beach Club in Nevis.
