Swindon company plans Iraq tour
A Swindon-based company is planning to organise a sight-seeing tour to Iraq, despite the continuing conflict in the country.
Bann Tours, set up by a former British soldier, is planning a week-long trip in September for £1,200.
So far the itinerary of the trip is confidential for security reasons, but a spokesman for the company insisted it would go ahead.
“We are determined to go on the trip and nothing will put us off,” said the spokesman.
“But I am not going to be putting anyone’s life in danger. It is a beautiful ancient country and the people are very friendly, not the animals they are portrayed as.”
Bann Tours claims to have found a safe and convenient point to enter Iraq, but it will be contravening Foreign Office advice, which warns against all but the most essential travel to Iraq.
The trip will not include insurance and a spokesman for the Association of British Insurers said few companies would provide cover for such a trip.
“Iraq is probably the number one most unattractive place in the world for insurers at the moment,” he said.
