Swiss airline pulls out of London City
SkyWork Airlines is pulling out of London City Airport and shifting its flights to Switzerland to Southend instead.
It will operate 11 flights a week to Bern from Southend Airport from October 27.
SkyWork said the move to Southend would allow passengers longer day trips to the Swiss capital.
Flights will leave London Southend every weekday at 08:15 with the return flight taking off from Bern at 18:40.
It said it had chosen to move to Southend "due to its reputation for fantastic customer service – evidenced by the ‘Best Airport in Britain’ award from Which? magazine – along with its simply easier links to the heart of London".
The London Southend railway station is 100 paces from the terminal building, it said, with up to eight trains per hour to London Liverpool Street, 53 minutes away.
The airport also promises its customers that they will wait for a maximum of four-minutes to go through security, and those arriving with hand-luggage only can expect to travel from plane to train in just 15 minutes of the aircraft doors opening, or 30 minutes maximum if collecting luggage.
