Sydney’s amazing weather

Friday, 23 May, 2007 0

Sydney is renowned as one of, it not the most scenic city on the world and our amazing, yet sometimes extreme weather give us amazing added colour and features from time to time.

Few though will have see the impact of approaching winter recently as did those at the top of the Sydney Tower and the amazing Skywalk, Australia’s most exciting new attraction, an ‘over-the-top’ adrenalin rush that sees thrillseekers literally walk across Sydney’s skyline more than a quarter of a kilometre above the city.

As cold air met warm water or vice versa – never could remember those geography lessons – as you may recall if you were in Sydney, a pretty heavy fog formed over the city.

Read on to see its amazing effect: –

Now a must-do Sydney experience and part of the iconic Sydney Tower, Skywalk is Sydney’s unique, highest-altitude tour that will enable daredevils to safely step outside onto the roof of the tower’s golden turret.

At a height double that of Sydney Harbour Bridge, Skywalk guests experience unmatched, cloud-scraping views over one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Dressed in protective clothing and secured by sliding cables to safety rails, Skywalkers will be guided outside along new purpose-built walkways around the base of the tower’s 31m-spire.

From their lofty 260m-high viewpoint, visitors can enjoy 360-degree, birds-eye outlooks over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, surf beaches and the entire city all the way to the Blue Mountains, the South Coast and north to the Central Coast.

Adding to the exhilarating, on-the-edge adventure are glass-floored viewing platforms overhanging the tower, providing Skywalkers with an eye-popping new perspective of the harbour city at their feet.

On days of low cloud cover, Skywalkers enjoy the buzz of touching the clouds or even staring down at them from the highest observation viewpoint south of the equator, as last week.

Opened in October 2005, the 95-minute Skywalk tour begins inside Sydney Tower, with safety and information sessions before the climb outside onto the roof of the golden turret.

Sydney Tower has attracted more than 16 million visitors since its opening in 1981, with the addition of OzTrek, formerly known as SkyTour, in 2000 providing an added drawcard.

Skywalk boosts the attraction’s popularity even further as locals, interstate visitors and overseas tourists line up to take the Skywalk challenge, pushing their willpower to the edge.

Sydney Tower’s Skywalk is open daily from 9am to 10pm. Skywalkers must be at least 10 years old. Entry prices are from $79 for adults and from $63 for children 10-15 years, and include an official Skywalk certificate of achievement.

I am sure you will agree these images are just amazing!
