Tahiti hosting Blue Climate Summit
French Polynesia will host the inaugural Blue Climate Summit at the weekend.
This global summit will present impact investment opportunities and provide Pacific Islanders an international forum to spearhead action on ocean and climate issues.
Blue Climate Summit takes place in French Polynesia from 14-20 May 2022.
It focuses on collaborative projects targeting climate change initiatives, ocean protection, and sustainable tourism.
The Summit will bring together scientists, environmental activists, business leaders, policy makers, and youth leaders.
It is an endorsed action of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and is co-hosted with the Government of French Polynesia.
The Summit opens at the Presidential Palace on 15 May, with the presentation of $1 million to winners of Blue Climate Initiative’s Ocean Innovation Prize.
The Summit concludes on 20 May with a community welcome at the Arue town hall, an exhibition of Tahiti environmental organisations and school programs.
Blue Climate Summit will double offset the event’s footprint by investing in a carbon sequestration project and an emissions reduction project in French Polynesia.
