Tassie doing well in the UK
Karen Fraser, general manager, international marketing for Tourism Tasmania (right below) and Sandra Leach, regional manager Europe for Tourism Tasmania (left below) told TravelMole at ATE 2006 that Tassie is doing very well out of the UK and that the 1,500 Tassie Specialists that are also part of the Aussie Specialist programme are critical in that.
They said that they also communicate regularly and offer fams etc and encourage agents to get their clients to visit Tasmania as part of an Australia trip.
“We tend to get visitors who have been to Australia before but have not been to Tasmania and generally out of the UK they are looking for some sort of touring and self drive programme.
“We deal with the trade only, giving them an insight into Tasmania, how experiential it is and that Tasmania is all about amazing experiences.
“The Tourism Australia strategy is right, the concept is cool, so let’s not worry about the caption!
“The latest IVS figures show that we are up 28% up out of the UK, with 31,000 Brits per annum going to Tassie out of a total international visitation of 120,000 and total all visits of 750,000 which is about 80% domestic and 20% international.
“We are tracking well compared to the other States and while the demise of Spirit III is unfortunate, when that started we did not have the increased air services, but we have them now, so with access having improved so much with daily flights to Tasmania from all over Australia, this has effectively solved the transport capacity issue.”
Report by John Alwyn-Jones from ATE 2006.
