Tata begins integrating all airlines under Air India
Tata Sons has apparently begun the process to integrate all its airline businesses under Air India.
It would see Vistara, AirAsia India and Air India Express fall under the umbrella of Air India.
Tata Sons has held meetings with Singapore Airlines, which holds a minority stake in Vistara.
Tata holds the majority 51% stake.
“SIA has reaped benefits from Vistara and realises that the cost of scaling up Vistara will be significantly higher as compared to Air India,” one executive told local media.
It will see a low-cost carrier and a full-service airline within the Air India business.
An announcement is expected within a week, according to people familiar with the discussions
Tata Sons has carried out the initial consolidation of Air India Express and AirAsia India.
