Ten more airline passengers hit with hefty FAA fines

Wednesday, 12 Nov, 2021 0

The FAA has hit another 10 airline passengers with big fines totaling more than $220,000.

It’s the second biggest announcement of fines for multiple passengers since the FAA crackdown.

They were imposed for various anti-social behavior including verbal abuse, spitting, physical threats and fighting.

Federal officials have now proposed nearly $1.5 million in fines although it is still a tiny percentage compared to the 5,000 unruly passenger incidents reported this year.

The FAA fined a Southwest Airlines passenger $26,000 for allegedly punching a flight attendant who required medical attention.

Another Southwest Airlines passenger was fined: $25,000 for spitting on a crew member.

The agency says more than 70% of incidents are disputes over wearing masks.

The FAA recently forwarded 37 of the most serious incidents to the FBI for possible criminal charges.

"Where the evidence supports criminal review, the FAA refers the cases to the FBI," a joint FAA-FBI statement said.
