Ten pilots grounded after failing flight test
Ten pilots from airline TransAsia have been grounded after failing an oral flight test.
Nineteen other pilots have yet to take any tests but will not be given any duties until they have done.
The 39 pilots who passed the oral test will now have to sit a simulator test – and if they fail, they will also be grounded, said the Taiwanese airline.
The testing was recommended by Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration after flight GE235 crashed earlier this month killing at least 42 people.
The failed pilots will be given retraining before being allowed to fly again.
TransAsia Flight GE235 crashed minutes after takeoff after the pilots battled to correct problems with both engines, according to preliminary investigations by Taiwan’s Aviation Safety Council.
Video footage of the crash showed the plane turning sharply left, clipping its wing on the underpass before crashing into the river.
Fifteen people survived after being pulled the wreck.
