Tenerife tourism boss becomes island’s president
Tenerife’s tourism chief Carlos Alonso has been elected as the island’s new President, following the voluntary resignation of Ricardo Melchior.
It’s the first time a Tenerife President has voluntarily left this position.
Alonso will remain as the Tenerife’s Tourism Councillor, a post he has held for the last two years.
Along with his new responsibilities, he will continue to focus on improving the island’s connectivity.
Last year, the Tenerife Tourism Corporation helped secure the launch of 36 new direct routes, the opening of two new aircraft bases for Norwegian and Vueling Airlines and the creation of over a million additional seats.
